Year Round Programs
Since 1997, Quiet Heart Wilderness School has been offering programs to engage students in the wilderness; building connection, awareness, and skills, and creating communities where students can gain confidence, independence, and perseverance.
This year, we are excited to offer our traditional day long Friday and Saturday programs! We have also updated our payment and registration to meet the changing needs of both Quiet Heart and our students.
Pathfinders-Ages 4-7
Wandering, exploring and discovering. Seeing and becoming aware. Learning about nature and our connection to it while playing in the woods. This is what the Pathfinders program is all about. Guided by our experienced naturalists, Pathfinders students will be acquiring the basic skills, knowledge and experience to allow them to be comfortable in the outdoors in any weather. Activities include awareness games, plant identification, hiking, shelter building, and more!
Owle-Ages 8-13
Students spend each day, sharing responsibilities as a tribe and practicing skills that our ancestors once knew. Each week, the students are presented with a project such as how to build emergency shelters, carve tools from wood, collect pitch from conifers for glue, how to make a fire pit, build and maintain a fire. (Projects vary by season.) Each day at lunch, students are able to cook food over a fire they built together. OWLE is a student-centered program, with each child working at their own level. We have opportunities for students to work both as a group in games and projects and on individual goals. Spring Owle ends with an Overnight, which any participant from a previous season can attend.
Ancestral Skills-Ages 13+
This is the most advanced and challenging program that we now offer. Students will be trained in awareness, tracking, primitive and survival skills, and team work in a small and intimate community. Registering students must be at least 13 years of age and possess some outdoor experience. Students meet each week at the OWLE campsite to work with their own instructor on appropriately challenging projects. Ancestral Skills also includes overnights at Alderleaf Wilderness College. There are two Overnights in Fall, One in Winter and two in the Spring. Dates will be announced each season.
