Wilderness Education Instructor
Are you passionate about sharing your love of naturalist and survival skills with others? Quiet Heart Wilderness School is looking for experienced Wilderness Education Instructors to lead small groups in the Edmonds, WA area starting in June 2024. Positions are available working with students ages 4 to teenager. Positions would be for full-time, week day summer employment, with the possibility of part time year round employment.
Instructors will be responsible for the following:
- Help to develop and implement a project-based wilderness education program focused on children’s interests and needs
- Obtain and manage materials with support from Quiet Heart administration
- Understand and implement all Quiet Heart safety procedures
- Facilitate group dynamics and reflective behavior management strategies with the students
- Communicate with parents and Quiet Heart administration on a regular basis
- Develop a strong partnership with other Quiet Heart staff members
- Regular preparation/reflection meetings with Quiet Heart administration and staff
- Work outside all day, every day in all weather; carry personal and camp gear; and walk long distances over uneven terrain.
- Ability to reliably access and participate in text and email communications and Google Drive
- Adult/Child CPR and First Aid certified, Background check
Candidates must have significant knowledge of naturalist and survival skills, as well as experience working with children in an inquiry-based, child-led program. We are looking for people who want to support our Quiet Heart traditions, while bringing their own experience, expertise, and perspective to our program. Applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum of 4 weeks over the summer, and attend staff training.
Quiet Heart instructors have paid prep time and staff development. Hourly pay rate is $19-$21/hr, dependent upon experience.

Assistant Instructors
Want to develop your naturalist and mentoring skills this summer? Quiet Heart Wilderness School is looking for responsible, independent, nature-loving Assistant Instructors with a demonstrated history of empathy, collaborative solution finding, and initiative to work at our summer camps in Edmonds, WA. Positions are available working with students ages 4 to 13. Weekly positions, Monday through Friday, are available from June 24th to Aug. 30th.
Assistant Instructors will be responsible for the following:
- Work with the instructor team to develop and implement a project-based wilderness education program focused on children’s interests and needs
- Obtain and manage materials with support from Quiet Heart administration
- Understand and implement all Quiet Heart safety procedures
- Facilitate group dynamics and reflective behavior management strategies with the students
- Develop a strong partnership with other Quiet Heart staff members
- Regular preparation/reflection meetings with Quiet Heart administration and staff
- Work outside all day, every day in all weather; carry personal and camp gear; and walk long distances over uneven terrain.
- Reliably access and participate in text and email communications and Google Drive

Assistant Instructors must be a minimum of 16 years old at the time of employment. They must have knowledge of naturalist and survival skills, as well as experience working with children. Applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum of 4 weeks over the summer, and attend staff training.
