Bow Drill Workshop Series

Of all the survial skills, Friction Fire, specifically Bow Drill, seems to be the most captivating for our community.  Come join us this fall to learn the art of Bow Drill firemaking and hone your Bow Drill skills!

Introduction to Bow Drill

Tired of flint-and-steel and ready to take your fire making skills to the next level? Want to be prepared in case of an emergency? Take this class and learn to make fire with nothing but sticks and string! By the end of the course you will understand the mechanics of bow-drill, get hands-on experience with a bow-drill kit, and receive personalized instruction from an experienced instructor. The class is designed for absolute beginners, and can continue as a series with our next course, Intermediate Bow Drill. Quiet Heart will provide all necessary supplies for the course, but feel free to bring your own fixed blade knife if you like. We welcome motivated and focused teens and adults to this course.  Ages 13+ with previous QH firebuilding experience, 15+ for complete beginners.

Date and Time: Sunday, Nov. 7 from 10am to 1pm

Location: Coyote Camp in Edmonds

Tuition: $60 per individual, $90 per family (adult+child)

Intermediate Bow Drill

Ready to take it up a notch?  During Intermediate Bow Drill, you will work with wild wood to create and use your own bow drill kit.  During this workshop, participants will learn about the properties and suitability of different wild wood options for creating a successful bow drill fire.  Participants in this course should have either attended Introduction to Bow Drill or have previous bow drill/friction fire experience.

Date and Time: Sunday, Nov. 21 from 10am to 1pm
