“My daughter LOVES OWLE! Thanks for being such amazing guides” – Melissa
“You have changed my life and my son’s. Getting him into the outdoors with you has had a huge impact on who he is becoming. It is so clear to me that this is feeding his soul. Thanks again.” – Paula
At Spotted OWLE (Outdoor Wilderness Living Experience), our students spend each Friday sharing responsibilities as a tribe and practicing skills that our ancestors once knew. Each week students are presented with a project such as how to build emergency shelters, carve tools from wood, identify edible and medicinal native plants, and how to build and maintain a fire. (Projects vary by season.) Through these projects, students learn patience, perseverance, cooperation, focus, and self-reliance, as well as build a personal relationship with nature. OWLE is a student-centered program, with each child working at their own level. Our experienced mentor instructors guide our students through the highs and lows of their own individual challenges. We have opportunities for students to work both in a group in games and projects and also on individual goals.
In order to meet the specific needs of alternatively educated students, families can chose to register for a full season with monthly payments or by individual days. *Due to the nature of scheduling and staffing needs, we request that students register for a minimum of 4 days per season.*
Instructors also send a weekly update outlining our activities of the day that can be used for curriculum reporting needs.
(Spotted OWLE is our Friday program in Monroe. We have a similar program, Barred OWLE, available on Saturdays in Edmonds. Please click here to learn about that program.)
