“My daughter LOVES OWLE! Thanks for being such amazing guides” – Melissa

“You have changed my life and my son’s.  Getting him into the outdoors with you has had a huge impact on who he is becoming.  It is so clear to me that this is feeding his soul.  Thanks again.” – Paula

At Barred OWLE (Outdoor Wilderness Living Experience), our students spend each Saturday sharing responsibilities as a tribe and practicing skills that our ancestors once knew.  Each week students are presented with a project such as how to build emergency shelters, carve tools from wood, identify edible and medicinal native plants, and how to build and maintain a fire. (Projects vary by season.) Through these projects, students learn patience, perseverance, cooperation, focus, and self-reliance, as well as build a personal relationship with nature. OWLE is a student-centered program, with each child working at their own level. Our experienced mentor instructors guide our students through the highs and lows of their own individual challenges. We have opportunities for students to work both in a group in games and projects and also on individual goals.

(Barred OWLE is our Saturday program in Edmonds.  We have a similar program, Spotted OWLE, available on Fridays for alternatively educated students.  Please click here to learn about that program.)
